But in the West, it is the new trend. People are just now discovering that hiring professional mourners is a great way to make others remember you fondly, at your funeral.

Owen Vaughan, a professional mourner in London was interviewed by Cracked about his job. According to him the occupation is similar to that of actors and before every ‘gig’ you have to do a character study and immerse yourself in the role in order
to play a convincing part. He added that sometimes family members and those hiring are very particular about what they want in his performance and some even direct him to ‘cry harder’ during the service. Owen also talked about his services and how they are hired by people from all faiths; Jews, Christians, Muslims.

Diane Kruger, German-Actress and former fashion model spoke about her job as a professional mourner, on BBC One’s The Graham Norton Show From the ages of 10-12, her job involved standing ‘stone-faced’ at funerals, near the coffin, with a candle.

She spoke about how depressing the job was and how she could eventually tell who was ‘faking it’ and not really ‘mourning the death of her husband’. She actually credited her acting career to the fact that she had this occupation at a young age.

The bottom line is, if you want to boost the experience for everyone at your funeral, paying someone to hysterically mourn the loss of your life is a great way to do it!

Let’s see if the trend catches on the professional mourning business starts booming, for now we hope Sylvester Moss garners more support on his GoFundMe campaign, as he tries to raise money for his noble cause.
