24. You were born with 300 bones, but if you’re an adult, you only have 206. As a baby grows, some of the bones, especially the skull bones, fuse together. The soft parts on a baby’s head, where the bones have not yet fused, are called fontanelles. Why aren’t babies born with these bones fused? Because having a softer head makes it much easier for the mother to give birth.
