26. Due to a majority of the festival goers making their way in for free, Woodstock organizers lost over $1 million that weekend. It took over ten years to get the money back. Most of the money was earned back from royalties that came from the success of the following documentary.

The opening act was Richie Havens from 5:07 p.m. to 7 p.m. He wasn’t supposed to be the original opener, but the band that had been scheduled to open the festival were late because of the infamous traffic. This performance catapulted Havens into stardom and was a major turning point in his career.
