Another tribe in Papua, New Guinea, the Sambia People, the bridge between boyhood and manhood is a 6-step process which begins around age 6. The boys are-first and foremost- taught to be warriors (because that is their primary role in the community). One of the biggest hurdles in this first step is learning detachment from women, including their own mothers. The other, pretty icky aspect of this coming-of-age process, is the ingestion of semen from grown
men by the young warriors-in-training. This is not seen as pedophilia or homosexual, but as a way to help the young men grow. This part of the process ends for the man about 10-15 years later when he fathers a child.

In some cultures, the men really have to work to get the attention of a marriageable woman. None of this Netflix and chill nonsense. The Wodaabe in Bororo, Africa, hold a week-long festival every year where men show off their good looks and dance skills for the women of the tribe, hoping to catch the eye of one (or more) of the ladies. A jury of three women are the Simon, Paula, and Randy of this little beauty contest and at the end, they each get to choose a man for an affair or marriage. Sometimes a man may end up getting chosen twice, which is fine with everyone. Also, couples are encouraged to break up and choose new partners, should the need arise.
